Takeaways

  • Kanzo is a Rust kanban board plus MCP server in one 4.1 MB binary.
  • Agents like Claude Code and Codex read and move cards on the same board you see.
  • Idle memory is 4.5 MB, cold start is 2 ms, agent replies are 10 to 60 tokens.
  • Data lives locally in SQLite under ~/kanzo , no account or server required.
  • Multi-machine sync works through a private git repo you own.
  • Open source under AGPL-3.0 , install via shell script or cargo install kanzo .

Coding agents can complete tickets quickly, but tracking their work often requires watching a terminal or copying status updates between tools. Kanzo gives developers and agents a shared kanban board through a small open-source Rust binary.

A single installation serves a browser interface at localhost:4242 and provides a Model Context Protocol server for Claude Code, Codex, and other compatible clients. MCP is a standard that lets AI clients discover and call external tools. Kanzo uses it to let agents claim cards, update their status, and post comments while the browser reflects those changes in real time.

One binary, two views

Kanzo presents the same task data through a browser for people and MCP tools for agents. An agent can take the next card, move it to doing , report progress, and leave the result ready for review.

The project supplies a one-line installer for macOS and Linux, including Raspberry Pi. Rust users can install it with cargo install kanzo .

Five commands cover the workflow

  • kanzo starts the board and opens it in a browser.
  • kanzo service install configures the board to start at login.
