Takeaways

  • DeepSeek open sourced dsh-superagent-prototype , a research prototype of its internal coding super-agent.
  • It is a proactive agent scoped to one GitHub repository, bundled for DeepSeek Harness, MIT licensed.
  • The design principle: minimize human attention cost, act only when asked or when a written rule allows.
  • Companion to the paper Exploring Super-agent Design: Towards More Autonomous Agent Systems.
  • Uses a two-layer architecture, event-driven design, asynchronous multi-channel interaction, and an external watchdog.
  • Much of the code was authored by coding agents, warned as inconsistent and not production ready.

DeepSeek has released dsh-superagent-prototype , an MIT-licensed TypeScript companion to its paper Exploring Super-agent Design: Towards a More Autonomous Agent System . The repository packages a proactive coding agent as a DeepSeek Harness bundle and targets one GitHub repository per deployment. DeepSeek labels it a research prototype and warns that the code may contain bugs and inconsistent engineering practices.

The agent receives GitHub events and can also connect to Feishu, a workplace messaging platform. After an authorized person requests work, it creates a work item, runs the task in a dedicated agent session and directory, then replies in the original conversation with the result, such as a pull request or a question that requires human input.

From request to repository change

An accepted request moves through a small set of explicit stages designed to preserve context while limiting unnecessary messages and repository activity.

StageAgent behaviorHuman involvement
RequestChecks that the message addresses the agent and comes from an authorized person or conversation.Provides the task and any initial constraints.
Work itemRecords the request as a trackable unit of work.Receives one confirmation describing the planned action.
ExecutionRuns the task in its own session and directory without sending progress chatter.Responds only if the agent reaches a specific blocking decision.
DeliveryReturns the usable result to the conversation where the request began.Reviews the change, answers the question, or takes another requested action.

The web panel lists unresolved human actions rather than duplicating the agent’s full activity log. Under the project’s model, a healthy deployment can leave that panel empty while completed work remains visible in GitHub or Feishu.
